Out Of My Mind - a novel.

Author: Sharon M. Draper

Main characters: Melody, Ms.V, Mom,Dad, Penny, Rose, Claire, Molly, Connor, rodney, Mr.D.

Book theme: Everybody has something different about them, dont let looks fool you.

Main conflict: Melody is looked at as incapable. But truthfully, she's extraordinary smart. She makes the 'Quiz Whiz Team', and wins the first competition. But lots of unexpected problems come along as she trys to make it to the Washington D.C. national competition.

How do the characters change: Everybody realizes that Melody is an extrodinary person.

Interesting part: How Claire lies about friendship on national television.

Summary: Melody Brooks has a hard life. She's a 5th grader at Spaulding Street Elementary School. She has Cerebral Palsy, and cannot talk. She has so much to say though. Her mom surprises her with a little sister, Penny. Lifes' a hassle at the Brooks' house. Melody loves school, even though she might not get treated how she should, and she's underestimated. Her neighbor, and fellow friend, Ms.V, helps Melody out like a second mother. And her dog, Butterscotch, is always there, waiting.. hand and foot. Melody gets a "Medi-Talker", named Elvira. Melody has a fish, Ollie, that flipped out of its bowl, and Melody tried helping it by knocking the bowl over, but gets blamed for killing the fish. This is compared throughtout the story to her life.

Would i reccomend this book? : Yes!! I already have! Its so interesting.. i read it in a matter of a week. It's hard to put down. And you can relate to her. It gives very good description also. The author uses everyday items to help kids understand better. Its wonderful!
