White Sands, Red Menace

Main characters: Dewey, Suze, Mrs. Gordon

Book theme: Families come in a varity of styles. Siblings will always be there for you.

Main conflict: Dewey and Suze have to come to terms with realizing they really are sisters and have to find a way to share Mrs. Gordon and their new lives with each other while remaining friends. This new bond is threatened when Dewey's real mom returns and wants Dewey to come live with her.

How do the characters change: Dewey's physical problems are lessened. Suze works hard to not become "the truck" again and not be so bossy to others.

Interesting part: How Suze reacts when she learns Dewey might be taken away from her family.

Summary: Dewey and Suze are living in New Mexico with the Gordons. Mr. Gordon is helping to build space rockets at Alamo Gordo. Suze and Dewey are in high school. Dewey. Mrs. Gordon is now a stay at home mom and isn't too happy about this development. It causes problems between the Gordons and Mr. Gordon eventually moves out. Suze befriends a local girl and learns that she still has issues as "the truck." Dewey befriends a boy and develops a close friendship with him. Both girls are still unsure what their role is to each other; however, when Dewey's mom comes to take Dewey away, Suze realizes that Dewey is a real sister and fights to keep her.

Would i reccomend this book? : I would. But, I think the girls would enjoy this much more than the boys would. There are a lot of coming of age issues for girls in this story, and the boys may have some trouble relating.
